Any experienced Tiger Muskie ice fisherman?
#1
I am going to set some time to spend a few days at Pineview trying to pull a Tiger through the ice.

Is there anyone on this board who has experience doing so?

We use to put a hurtin on them back in day when whole perch were allowed. I would suggest a 1-1.5 oz bucktail jig green, yellow or white with a chunk of perch and mabey some scent on it? I have cought more without any motion then jigging!!Good Luck,M.H.

Hi Craig!

I saw a deal on in-fisherman once when they were vertical jigging muskies & pike with large bucktail spinners. They would drop them to the bottom and them "burn" them back up almost to the hole and repeat over and over. They caught several on the show doing this. Hard to say though, they could've been on location filming for days on end to get the 10 minutes of footage we get to see on the screen. I do remember they said to focus on weed edges or prominent points adjacent to deeper water.

Good Luck and let us know if it works out.

P.S.- I did catch a muskie through the ice a few years back but it was by accident on a 1" curly tail grub and 6lb test line. It went about 30" 5-6 lbs.

Anyone know the ice conditions as of this holiday weekend? If the conditions are good I may schedule a trip for Saturday.

That would be a serious rush pulling one of those babies through the ice on a little 2' pole! [Tongue] Good luck on your quest, I'll be paying attention for some details. Sounds like a fun challenge.

Not to mention- one of those would put up a nice score in the ice fishing challenge!! [blush]

MuskyHunter is right - back when you could use a whole dead perch, we put them below a tip-up. The Windlass models were good, because you could allow the breeze to "jig" your bait up and down.
But now, you can use a 1" square of perch meat, and I hang that off a big Jigging Rapala. With a second-pole permit, you can still utilize a tip-up, and either actively jig for them with a pole, or just do some perch jerkin' too.
Good luck!
