Murphy's law of fishing
#1
Once I herd the slush was freezing up I decided to head to Stawberry yesterday. Was planning on picking up a guy from work in Heber, but when i got there he had left his cold weather gear at work, so he headed up get them and I headed for the lake. Right off the bat I managed to get stuck in the parking lot at the Marina. Didn't look too bad, but after 2 hours of digging I started to realize that it might be a little worse than it looked. Finally a good samaritan came along and gave me a tug (only guy in the whole lot with a tow rope). About the time I was freed from my icy dungeon my buddy from work showed up, we unloaded the wheeler and headed out. Got about a mile out and decided to try it, but the auger wouldn't run, the only thing I can figure is it got a little snow in the carb somehow. Finally after 20 minutes of carburator rebuilding, drying and cleaning we get the thing running. Of course the first time I ever have a problem with my auger is the trip after I lose my backup hand auger.
I got to the marina at 7:00 and it was almost 11:00 before I before I got a line in the water. Fishing was slow but steady between 11 and 3 when we got blown off of the lake with everyone else. I caught 8 or 10 all in the slot, I did lose one nice rainbow at the hole. My friend only caught 1, but he's new to the ice fishing world.
As bad as my morning went I decided to not take the wheeler over the pressure ridge into renegade. There was one spot that looked solid, but was broken up open water to both sides of it. I saw wheelers go over it several times during the day, just didn't feel like pressing what little remaining luck I had left.
Standard baits, tubes and minnow chunks and we were fishing in 25 feet of water.

Sounds like one of those days that it would have been better to just stay home!
