Rockport theives
#1
Well, while I was at rockport Sun evening I decided there would be plenty of holes to fish so I left my hand auger in the back of the truck. Today I went to go fishing and realised that it was gone. In the 2 hours I was on the ice someone stole it. I left it in the back of the truck so it's my fault but it was not taken out and forgotten, someone reached in and took it. Beware when parking to fish. They will strike again. Keep all valuables out of sight, I'm sure they would break a window to get at something they wanted.

Keep your eyes open when in the parking lots too. If you see something suspisous, copy down a plate #.

It was an old strikemaster with the knob type handle, 8".

May the Fish Gods forever curse the one so despicable as to steal a fellow anglers auger. It takes a real jackbass to sink that low. I hope the thief doesn't catch another fish until he counteracts this deed with a minimum of 10 good deeds.

No, I'm a firm believer in Karma. They will probably fall through the ice or cut themselves on the razor sharp blades. They will catch no fish through holes drilled with that auger. Something bad will happen to them for their deeds.
As for me, I'll still icefish, there are plenty of holes and always someone willing to drill one or two for me. Maybe it's a sign that I should look into a power auger.
Sportsmans has 6" hand augers on sale for $29. I'll get one for the rest of this year. Just bought a shelter so thats it for this years expensive ice gear.

Was it a "generic" auger, did anything stand out on it? I had all my tackle stolen when I stopped at a gas station in Fillmore 3 Yrs. back. I was inside maybe 7 minutes. Video surveillance was so shoddy that I couldn't even make out a face. I'm a little more cautious now and trust no one, I don't like thinking everyone is going to steal something from me, but what do you do?[unsure]

[#ff4040]That freakin sucks man! I never leave my stuff in the bed of my truck. I am paranoid about losing all my stuff and having to start over again....plus I don't think the wife would let me buy any new gear.[/#ff4040]

Yes, just a generic 10 year old strikemaster. Blue bottom section, plain steel upper. Red grip and knob on top. There are a few marks on it from using pipe wrenches to take it apart a few times. Nothing that would make it stand out. A cut on the blade cover.

Troll,

That sucks man. It has the effect of "tarring all fisherman with the same brush" so's it leaves one very untrusting.

So far I've been lucky & haven't lost anything. I'll say this though, I'm 65 but still a pretty fair horse & if I ever catch somebody taking what isn't theirs - one of us aint going away under his own power.

No, I hope I never see it again. I also don't want to go around being suspisous of everybody who has a blue auger with red handles. To much bad ju-ju for me. Not while I'm fishing. I want to enjoy my time fishing, not looking around for $30 worth of gear.

Imagine if I did see it, could identify it and began to accuse the theives right then and there on the ice. It would not go well for them. Kind of like being caught steeling tools from a truck in the HD parking lot. Mob mentality is not pretty.

What a fantastic offer. Thank you.

I have a good job and will buy a replacement but I'll bet that there is someone somewhere who really needs that auger to help get some kids or diSadvantaged out fishing who could really use your kind and generous offer. If you find them or someone cantacts you let me know, I'll buy the replacement blades for them.

Hey Troll, Sorry to hear about your auger. It sounds like you didn`t see it missing for a couple days. Could it have dissapeared somewhere else besides the parking lot. I would hate to think that a fellow fisherman would hose you like that.

sorry to here that, I had a fly rod taken along time ago up big cottonwood canyon. I was only 100 yards away using another rod and a black jeep pull down in the same place I was parked and only stayed for 5 minutes. I knew I had left my rod so I went back and sure enough it was gone. I learned a lesson, I never leave anything out that I still want.
sounds like your auger is the same as myne, screw together and the red button on top, they also have some with a red handle ontop.

Thats horrible when another fisherman would steal something from another fisherman. No morals!!!!

Maybe it will be like the old Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote cartoons.

He'll drill a hole in the ice and the rest of the lake will fall in including him lol!

I was there that day too till 5:30pm , but they didn't take anything I had out of my truck . I have jumper cables , tow strap . small tool set , and other parts in the back of my truck to help someone in need . I do have a shell on but never lock it . Many times I have my hand auger in there just in case my power auger fails me . That is to bad someone took your stuff .
