Deer creek Report 2-7
#1
With the exception of the area around the State Park launch, Deer creek is capped. I had a little time this afternoon and went and fished the "island". There is 4-5 inches of hard, clear ice in this area. Edges were OK, but warranted caution. There is also a large pressure ridge going across the lake from the island that was tricky to negotiate. Alas, the fishing was pretty slow. I got 1 consolation size bow in about 3 1/2 hours of fishing and had only a couple other bites. I didn't see squat on the finder either, and I moved around quite a bit. I used the usual stuff, but I got the impression that the fish just weren't in the areas I was at.

On the way in, I got checked by a DWR officer doing a creel survey. We chatted for a few minutes and he said that for the first time in 7 yrs. at DC, they had a noticeably decent perch spawn. That was good to hear. He also asked me about my opinion on the size restriction regulations on walleyes there. I guess they are considering changing the regs on eyes at DC and elsewhere.
