So what do you guys think about this stuff?

I suppose anythings worth a try. I've smeared lures with plenty of other weird things in an attempt to get fish to bite. Any of you guys ever try it or scent free titanium dioxide? I wonder how a little titanium dioxide mixed with Smelly Jelly would do.

[cool][#0000ff]There is a whole lot in that article that sounds more like wishin' than fishin'. First of all, titanium dioxide is not a magic fish formula. It is a super white compound that is used in white paint. It replaced the old lead products. I have it in virtually every white lure paint I use.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Secondly, he made claims about the vision of fish that is simply not true. For example, sharks being able to see humans in the water 1/2 mile away. Balderdash. Most sharks cannot see bait in the water even within a few feet of them. They rely mainly on smell and electrical impulses picked up by sensitive organs in their snouts.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The originator claims to have gone to Moses Lake in Washington and caught "A" walleye. That is a lake where a good walleye angler, without "superjuice" can catch a hundred walleye in a day. Same for the halibut. Big whoop. Hundred pounders are common. They have to be over 300 to raise any local eyebrows...even though the smaller fish are better eating.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I would have to conduct my own on-the-water research before rendering a solid opinion. It takes more than a single trip, under varying conditions, on different species before anyone could make valid claims of true effectiveness.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]He had it right when he issued the disclaimer that it was "not a magic potion". That's a lot like the diet pills that guarantee you will lose weight...as long as you quit eating and exercise a lot.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]My initial read on it is that it is just another item designed to catch fishermen and not fish.[/#0000ff]

[red] I have to agree with TubeDude on this one. That whole story sounded more like a ploy to catch fishermen rather than fish. i'm going to stick with what i know works.[/red]

Well I have to add my 2 cents here. We all know, or should, that "a better mouse trap" is designed to catch the trapper rather than the trapped.. Like lock work new things appear on the market to intice the angler into striking. After all, there more people trying to sell the angler some new and improve something than are actually angling. [laugh]
I've often said.. "If you want to get a person to spend their hard earned dollar provide them with something they think they want and must have, not something they need."

I agree with you TubeDude, but that did not stop me from plunking down $20 for an 8oz. bottle of the stuff. When I get it in I will give it a thorough testing on Bear Lake and let you know what I think. It "hooked" me, but so do a lot of other lures, etc. That's why we are fishermen! Anybody else lay down some $$ for this stuff?? I read about it in the Logan paper a week or so ago.

After TubeDude's blasting I didn't think anyone would admit to that! lol I'm surprised you did! However, if you fish like I do, you need any advantage you can get. When you get your bottle and get the results let us know what you think. I may get a bottle to use when fishing Cutler. Do you think the fish will be able to see a lure with that stuff on a 1/4 mile in that water? lol

I originally read about it in the HJ myself. No I have not broken out my checkbook yet. I completely agree that much of what's out their is designed to hook fisherman and not necessarily fish. Many of the claims made in the article and the company web site are quite absurd. However, there's a big difference between titanium dioxide locked into the paint on a lure and titanium dioxide wafting off of the lure and creating a cloud around it. Maybe a titanium dioxide cloud is an effective fish attractor. I am very interested in hearing BLFGs results after he gives it a try.

I have to wholeheartedly agree with TD. I have been to Moses Lake and Potholes Resovoir, which is attached to it, and seen and caught many walleye 6 pounds and over. For example, here is a link to a report from Mardon Resort, which is on Potholes, showing photos of just a few of the walleye taken January and February. http://www.mardonresort.com/wr_.aspx
Ignore the link. To see pictures go to mardonresort.com
sorry.

[cool][#0000ff]I would be the world's worst hypocrite if I made fun of you for buying some of that stuff. Anybody who has visited my "playroom" knows that I have certainly invested a lot in "R&D" of new and wonderful products. Some of the stuff does work. Maybe not better than without it, but not a total waste of money.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I don't know what the ratio is, to stuff that is worth the money and stuff that is not. But, being an eternally optimistic angler, I keep hoping that someday somebody will come up with a magic lure or potion that will simplify my fishing. But then, that might take a lot of the fun out of it. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]By the way, Scott, I have some swampland in Arizona I would like to talk to you about.[/#0000ff]

I just wish they would come up with something that would make the fish more plentiful and bigger as well as bite better! I don't want much do I. LOL

[cool][#0000ff]You really do wanna take all the challenge and the fun outta fishin', don'tcha?[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Ever heard the expression: "Wish in one hand and (you know what) in the other hand. See which one gets full the fastest." I don't know what that means but it sounds funny.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]And, while you are in a wishing mode, how about working on world peace, and end to hunger and the ability to understand females. Those are all way beyond me. I'll stick with something simple, like fishing.[/#0000ff]

Coming from someone who was once the proud owner of some rather expensive Banjo Minnows, and has some Berkley Gulp products in transit to me as we speak, I say Scott go for it!

you can buy a tube of that stuff at a grocery store, its the same crud you smear on your noses to keep the sun off, I know most of you have it already...it should all be "unscented" but it still smells like Titanium dioxide...that same way a fish smells like fish...its just what it is. off the top of my head I would think the best thing for mixing it with...to scent it...would be like the crave gravy, the consistency is right and I think it would help to keep it thick enough to not wash off on the "drop" or cast. hhmmmm..I am going to my "labarotory" to test this. later findings will be posted....if i live through it.LOL
