A self addressed, stamped envelope must be included with each entry. Do Not note author on actual work.[/size][/font]

She has an MFA from Vermont College, and won the 2005 Mark Twain Award from Society for the Study of Midwestern Literature for her "contributions to Midwestern literature." A two-time winner of the Midwest Poetry Award and a National Federation of State Poetry Societies Founders Award, and she has been nominated twice for a Pushcart Prize. Jan's dissertation was on architecture and poetry, built around Philip Larkin's "High Windows" and "Church Going" and Elizabeth Bishop's "The End of March." Jan's area of interests and specializations are "Religion in the academy, particularly as it is reflected in first-year student writing." Jan has published "Student Pieties and Pedagogical Hot Spots." Writing on the Edge (UC-Davis journal on writing and teaching writing) Fall 2003. Jan is widely published and continues to write poems, personal essays, and short stories. Jan is involved in a new program called the "Green Arts" which is organizing a three year series of events through U of M Flint, celebrating the Flint River Watershed. She is process of designing a nature writing course for students this upcoming fall.
