Cache Valley Catfish
#1
Finally made it out for the first serious catfish trip of the year in Cache Valley (taken the kids a couple of times to Benson Marina to catch mud cats). Hit the river at 6:30 AM and by 6:45 had the fight on. I was using a new rod I picked up for steelhead fishing and the fish felt as good as any steelhead I've ever caught. But alas, had that gut sinking feeling of a hook pulling free and never got a good look at that one. Had a couple more solid inquiries and was able to get one good eater for kitty krispies. The water is moving pretty fast and almost all the bites came after letting the current carry it under an undercut bank or submerged log. Should start getting good from here on until it's too hot to stand going.

[cool][#0000ff]Just remember, whenever you lose a fish you have the right to make it whatever size and species you want. Who can prove otherwise?[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Too bad you lost that 2 pound carp though. Woulda made good bait.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]What area were you fishing and what were you using for bait?[/#0000ff]

I've caught plenty of two pound carp and this was not one of them, in fact I was using a chunk from one of those two pound carp for bait. I was on the Bear River out in Benson. If I get to make it anything I want, then it was a 10+ lb channel. Sounds reasonable to me as it had a lot more pull than my biggest out of the same hole from last year[Smile]
