I just heard a rumor that some low level radioactive or other pollutant were found in the water at Lake Mead. Does anyone have any information regarding either the pollution level at Mead or whether pollutants can also be found in the stripers? If so, should we not eat the stripers? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

So I take it from the lack of response, there is nothing to worry about when it comes to the fish at Mead. I guess the rumor about radioactive materials was false.

Im not sure why you would assume a lack of response means there is nothing to worry about. Do a simple Google search on Lake Mead Pollutants and I'm sure you will find what you are looking for. Mercury levels in Striper have been a concern, one EPA article advised no more than 3 8oz striper meals a month for a 70KG adult. Perchlorate (rocket fuel) levels have been quite high in the past although I haven't seen anything recently. One source albeit very biased is the local Water stores. The truth is usually somewhere in between the extremes on both sides so it comes down to who you believe and how concerned you are. Radioactive waste is always a hot topic since we are relatively close to the test site but I doubt its that bad or we'd already have skyrocketing cancer in the valley. Let us know what you find out on your own.

I took your advice and performed a google search on the topic. There really isn't a whole lot of info on the topic. I think your posting pretty much covers it albeit the information is a few years old. I found some results from testing of stripers in Mead but it really doesn't provide the general public with any specific recommendations. Further, I found that all the studies pertained to the Nevada side of Lake Mead, i.e., Boulder Basin and Overton Arm. There were no results from stripers caught in the Temple Basin, AZ (where I typically fish).
Anyway, thanks for the suggestion.
Best regards,
Paul
