MOTOR HELP
#1
I was wondering if anybody could help me out with an answer.
I was heading out fishing and the motor was running fine.
Then it was like the key was turned off and the motor died.
Started it up and ran fine for about 3 mins. and samething, just died like there was no power. I checked the cables to make sure they was clean, checked the fuel filter, checked the wires to the key switch, all were fine. Went to start it and it just clicked. Checked the cables again, Started up and ran and died again like there was no power. I was wondering if the cables are alittle dirty wouldn't the engine still run if it has a built in altanator? I have a 73 Johnson 85 hp 4 cylinder. The battery did have a full charge be for I hit the lake. Any info would help....

Check the spark plug cable? Maybe it(they) is loose. I had a snowmobile do the exact thing to me.

Sounds like your grounding out somewhere. Chech all your wires for nics or if any have rubbed thru. Check eveywhere they come in contact with metal one may have rubbed thru.

I have a '76 Johnson 85 HP V-4 and the alternator only puts out 6 amps, so it is miniscule compared to a regular alternator. If the battery cables are a little corroded, that may cause the intermittent power cut-off. Usually when you hear a click when you try and crank the engine is a bad cable somewhere. If all the connections are alright, maybe the powerpack is getting weak. I have a manual for my motor and it shows how to check the powerpack, if you need help on how to do it, PM me.

Thanks for all the help guys,
I checked everything you have mention and it was the
Power Pack was starting to go out. That would have been the
last thing I would have though of. I did run new cables, put in a new key switch,(Think it was going out) Checked for bare wires.
Maybe I can Still hit the Gorge this week end.
Thanks again...
