After spending a beautiful weekend at the Gorge and catching our share of Kokes I have a few questions. I do pretty good casting jigs for rainbows and smallies, but what is the best way to troll for good sized rainbows? Do you need to hug the shore, what's the best tackle and how deep/fast. I see guys who use popgear and worm that do pretty good. Not exactly my favorite form of fishing.
I could also throw in the same ol' question of where should you head for browns? I see a 9lb brown was the Villa winner.

We did very well earlier in the year trolling the shoreline for rainbows using planer boards. The water temps were 46 to 52. I like to troll small crankbaits, jointed rapalas (#7s) in clown, flo. red or chartruse, closest to shore. Then we would run a small shad rap or tail dancer closer to the boat. I like running cranks because they float when you make inside turns, and if you hang up a lure you can go get get it without the rest of your setuo sinking and getting stuck!. I troll for rainbows at 1.8 to 2.4 mph.

I've used Rapala's, but haven't tried cranks. Sounds like a good idea. Thanks.

Last year a friend and I did really well trolling small strands of pop gear with a wedding ring rig. We also did well using leaded line with flourescent countdowns. Troll close to the fairly close to the shore.... We also caught Koke's and Lakers doing it.
