My first channel cats

My buddy Chris (rajncajn) and I took the wives down to Utah Lake (PBH) this last Friday to try our luck at some catfish. When we showed up around 4pm it was really nasty out there, blowing like crazy and thunder and lightning, but it looked like it would pass so we just hung out in the truck for about an hour. Sure enough the weather improved.

I threw some shrimp out on the bottom, Chris threw out some Dynamite (stink bait), my wife tossed out a minnow, and his wife tried a night crawler. So we pretty much covered our bases. Anyway, the fishing was slow to start but right around 6pm things started to pick up. I caught two mud cats on the shrimp, then the first of my two channel's. Thought I had a carp at first with the way the thing was tugging. Nice fight to them channel's, thats for sure.

Anyway, here are the totals:

BurlSwift - 5 total, 3 mud cats and 2 channels
rajncajn - 1 mud cat
Mrs. rajncajn - 1 blue gill
Mrs. BurlSwift - shunked! And boy was she mad about it. Since we've been here in Utah she's never been skunked on any body of water that we've fished. She wants revenge.

[#505000]Good for you!! I'm glad you had a good trip. You need to let Rajncajn know that that stinky dough bait is about three shades of useless. Only thing I ever caught on it was a stray walleye.[/#505000]

[cool][#0000ff]I agree. Utah cats like fresh meat better than that rank stuff. However, if you have some other anglers come crowding in too close you can open some of that stuff up and you will get more space on the bank.[/#0000ff]
