Quick Flaming Gorge Question
#1
Going smallie fishing next week with Sparky at the Gorge, one of my favorite outings. I can never keep it strait. Which warms fastest, the Confluence or the Spring Creek area? I'm thinking the Confluence. [crazy] Hope I'm not too late. I'm puzzled by the lack of smallie reports from there? [unimpressed]

You're not too late. I was there 2 weeks ago (5-24 and 25). Surface temps in the Lucerne area were in the mid-50s and the smallmouth were starting to get active. By the time you get there they should be on the bite everywhere. We only fished for them for a few hours on the 25th but caught fish on tubes and on Lucky Craft Bevy Shads.

Leaky,

I fished the villa tourney and caught quite a few smallies. My bother and I stopped by sheep creek yesterday on the way back from Pelican. We boated 12 smallies in about 2 hours. Tubes and crankbaits worked equally well. The fish were small but lots of fun. You shouldn't have any trouble catching fish.

Hi Leaky,
In answer to your question, the confluence area warms faster for a couple of reasons. One there is a larger flow or water that comes in through the confluence area vs the spring creek area and two, the confluence is up reservoir and the up reservoir inflow areas always warm faster. Talked with several bass fisherman last weekend, ( I am not a bass man) and they said that the males are starting to move in the bays looking for nesting sites and most of the bigger females with be located on outer lake points...hope that helps ya...good luck.

Thanks folks for the input.[Wink] I'll post up on Sparky and my tube trip. Sparky says thanks too since he has more fun when I catch fish and let him chase em. [sly][sly][sly]
