Setline ?

Anyone have any experience with setlines at Utah Lake? I'm thinking I might have a go at it. Anyone tried it before?

The regs say one end must be attached to an immovable object...can that be a bucket full of cement or does it have to be attached to something on shore? Playing with the idea of two buckets with floats chained to them, and the setline tied to the chain at the appropriate depth...

I picked up a setline at Cabellas last night. Getting it put together tonight. Got a minnow trap too. Might have to stock up on some minnows. Fifteen hooks at a time will go through some bait.

Just out of curiosity how much did that setline cost ya? I wonder if its cheaper to make your own.[]

I set out to make my own, but it only cost about 8-9 dollars for a 25 hook setup. It is 120 feet, 285 lb main line with swivels every five feet. Little rubber stoppers are melted to the line to keep the swivels from sliding up and down the main line. It also comes with 18 inch droppers and 25 hooks. (probably use my own hooks) Didn't think I could do it for much cheaper...

There was a much larger one there 250 feet/50 hooks or something like that. Regs say only 15 hooks, so the big one could be chopped into 3.

A person could tie loops in a rope and come up with about the same thing. It was cheap, so I took the easy way out.

One end tethered could be a cement bucket. You could also use a pole like perhaps an old shovel handle, and drive it down into the mud.

Don't forget you buy your setline permit.

Thats not a bad price.You can use an anchor at one end with a rope attached to a floatation device.A 2 liter of pop would be good tied to the anchor rope.So is utah lake the only place you can use a setline?

I have used one that i made a few times out at utah lake and they work well. Just make sure you buy your permit and in utah you can only have up to 15 hooks I believe. The permit isn't really expensive. It costs the same as a second pole permit. Just check the proclamation. They are pretty specific as far as setlines go,
