Seagull bait that is [Smile] Fishing the berry yesterday and here comes a prariedog cruisin by the boat - crazy - about 50 yds behind the first one here comes a second one. One of them did not make it after a gull started harassing him/her [Sad] - Never seen that before - guess I need to start packing a varmit rifle in the boat!

Now for the fishing - we fished Monday night until 3 am and it was fantastic under a light with minnows and 4 inch tube jigs. Lots of slot fish with four well over the slot. My partner should have caught a lot more but could not get the hang of the light cutt bite. It was his first trip to the Berry. Tuesday morning - tried to find the kokes but never did - trolling we caught a lot of small cutts and a few bows on needle fish, humdingers and rapalas. Headed home by noon and had a great trip.

My wife and I encountered one of those suicidal squirrels a couple of years ago. He was a good 50 yards from shore, swimming for the opposite bank.

Surprisingly the cutts will put the hurt on a dog if they get the chance. I know the DWR posted something about non-aquatic feed found in survey cutts. I have thought about buying some pet mice and trying them out for bait. Problem is that they don't swim for very long before becoming water logged. Maybe I need to invent a life jacket for them....he, he, I think that's an oxymoron...life jacket to keep them alive until a big ol trout munches on them!

Just don't use pet mice . The mice up at Strawberry can swim clear across the bay and still look dry when they land .Problem is they will chew the line , unless you use steal leader . I've watched them several times doing this and realized I was fishing a bay with no hungry big fish . Also had to retie a lure after they chewed my line while I was poking them with my rod tip . I should of stepped on him . LOL . I wonder if they sell Potgut lures ? LOL

a few years back the wife and kids and I with some friends went out on the opening day of the elk hunt and out in the middle of strawberry (as far from any shore as possible) we had to nearly stop the boat because there was 8 head of moose swimming acrossed.
we're just guessin they got spooked out there with the elk hunters but they made it to the west shore without a hitch.

A few years back I was fishing up there during the opening weekend of the deer hunt and some deer get sppoked of the island formed by the narrows. One of the deer was a buck and here come a boat up alongside it. one guy reaches out of the boat and grabs the horns.
The other guy on the boat takes out a rifle and shoots it. Then they had quite the time getting a water logged deer in there boat.

Bigfishrule, I heard a story just like that. Only thing was the buck would of been a new state record, but they filleted it.

[cool][#0000ff]That's getting close to the story about the two California hunters. One accidently shot the other. Later at the hospital the doctor told the first guy "Sorry he didn't make it. He would have had a better chance if you hadn't gutted him out before throwing him on your fender and bringing him in."[/#0000ff]

I HERD ABOUT THAT FROM SOME ONE ELSE WHO WITNEST IT. REAL SPORTING HUGH. ILL BET IT WAS TICK FREE THOUGH. IVE WITNEST MANY DEER SWIMMING OFF THE ISLAND AND OUT TO IT. ALSO WITNEST ABOUT 20 ELK CROSSING FROM CHICKEN CREEK HEADED STRAIT ACROSS TOWARDS MUDD CREEK. WHEN I WAS A KID I USED TO TIE A SLIP KNOT IN MY LINE AND CHASE POTGUTS INTO THEIR HOLE AND THEN PUT A POTATO CHIP OUT FOR BAIT AFTER PUTTING MY LASSOW AROUND THE HOLE. WATCH FOR THE HEAD AND THEY THE WOOD TO THEM. RIPPING THEM OUT OF THE HOLES. THEN WALK TO THE WATERS EDGE AND CAST. SPLAT.
