I took my son Joe, and his family fishing at Newton today. We didn't get there until 10:30, but a beautiful day ever though it was hot. We wanted the grandkids to catch a fish, so went to a secluded spot away from the skiers. Jodi, who is 4 years old, now has her own pole. With Dads help rigging a white tube jig and a worm under a bobber from Dad, she cast it out all by herself and caught two small bluegills. Talk about sheer joy! It was okay that she out fished my one fish to see her so excited and happy. We only stayed until noon, so the young ones could go home and get naps.
The water was still up good, 45 feet deepest I saw. 79 degree water temperature. It was tempting to strip down and jump in to cool off. I didn't see a lot of catching. Most fish on the finder looked small, and I think it will still take years to recover from the drought.
The bluegills we caught were only about 6 inches long, but fiesty little fighters for a small fish. Acey
