Castro's Fishing Place 7/18-7/21
It was an a great trip fishing out of Castro's for 4 days. Went with Greens, Mike, and JJ and we all had a fantastic time. On the way out each day we fished for calicos and all of us connected. Mike came up with a hawg that weighed 9.7 lbs. Everyday we tried to catch WSB or YT. The first and second days after no morning WSB or YT hookup we targeted bottom fishing with trolling between drifts. We filled the large cooler and under the seats both days with calicos, rock cod, lingcod, nice bonita's, and berries. The third day we targeted lingcod and again filled the cooler with some nice lingy. Our chant was "come here lingy lingy lingy." When trolling we nailed bonita's again. JJ hooked up with a couple of nice size sheepheads. The fouth day we really set out to catch the elusive ghost WSB. Each one of use had a couple big strikes but did not bring one in for various reasons. My learning experience is to always check the drag before casting out it cost me one. Our capt all four days was Oscar. He really knew his shit and we were lucky to have him each day. On the fourth day Oscar standing on the bow hooked up with a WSB. Now this was not any ordinary WSB. It turned out to be a 20 minute battle on 30# test using a Krock jig. The result was a monster at 71 lbs, 54 " long. This is the second largest WSB he had ever landed. The largest was 79 lbs. We ended up with 16 freezer storage bags full of fillets for the four days of fishing.
