you have asked the right question, not many have thought of this, what happens when you are in a boat and the nearest mud is 20 feet down.....
for this trick I would sugest that you find some clay crush it in to a powder and place it in to a snap box that you can put in your pocket or tackle box ahead of time. on the lake you can add water to make a mud paist that will stick to your worm.
