JUST PERL WHITE OR WHITE WITH SPECKLES IN 2 1/2 INCH TO 3 INCH ARE THE HOT TICKET. FISH 20 TO 40 FT RIGHT ON THE BOTTOM.

The most common type of jig being used is a tube jig. Various shades of white, with and without speckles, has been the most popular. Size that works the best varies from day to day, but overall about 2 1/2 to 3" has been popular lately.

On most trips I try both crawler and a chunk of minnow. I would estimate that a chunk of minnow works better about 2/3 of the time. Just use 1/2 of a crawler or only a small chunk (approximately 1/2" by 1" strip) of minnow. Using larger pieces usually results in no more bites and more misses.

My money jig is the 4" pearl white tube w/pink smelly jelly. I prefer it rigged with a walleye jighead instead of a standard jighead.

ARE YOU TALKING A LONG SHANK OR A FIRE BALL WITH THE UP TURNED HOOK?

Search Cabela.com for canadian walleye jig. I like these better because I rig my jigs using a minnow threader and take the line more out the top than most people. These jig heads put the eye more in line with the hook for more consistant and easier hookups - in my opinion (I could be wrong, but it works for me.)

Some good tips have been suggested. Heres a photo of a few that I use. The sizes are 2.5"-3.5" with 1/8oz-3/8oz lead head.

Out of curiosity, what do the fish take these tube jigs for? Do they see them as minnows or something or is it just something that looks tasty and dances a jig for them?

I've always thought they take it for a minnow.

I agree with jig-master MGB, I think the fish see it as the white belly of a minnow.
