Fishing Mantua on Sunday
#1
[cool] After a long week at work ( 3 Days ), taking care of some honey doos on Friday and a whole lot of youth soccer games on Saturday, I am hoping to get out and do some fishing on Sunday.

I was hoping to get up to Mantua with the wife and catch some fish.

Last weekend it seems that there was a lot of fish catchin up there and I hope to get in on some. Does anyone have any tips for us to hopefully catch a few? I will be going up in the morning and have until around noon or 1pm to fish.

Any tips or help would be appreciated.

Hey bud,
Please don't take this as a blow off, but I keep seeing these kinds of questions and I conclude that maybe if one really wants to help they would suggest you read previous posts on Mantua, or the area of question using the search tool if necessary!!![Wink] Another great source, if not better is to read the Fishing Report Archive Board under the general Utah fishing section.[Smile] Really, I do hope this helps better than any "today" response. After reading these posts maybe if you have a more specifiac question then we "know it alls" could try to help. [crazy]
P.S. Great having ya on board and am looking forward to you telling us old "#" a thing or two. We could use it.[Smile]

Will you be in a boat or fish from shore?
In a boat, look for any drop off where the weed are on top of the water. At the edge of the weeds, you will look for steep drop offs. Fish the edges with a small jig or even just a jig head and piece of worm.[White color is a good choice]
From the shore use a bobber with your jig or if the weeds ar not too bad, just cast and retrieve.
The East side is good along the trees and on the West side, try North of the boat dock.
Have a lot of worms and just use enough to cover the hook.

We will be fishing from out pontoons, I just recently got my wife a toon and was skunked on willard over the weekend. Thanks for the info on the drop offs, I have read the other posts from last weekend and was not sure what color of jigs were used, so I am glad you mentioned white due to that is one color wich I dont have in the box. I will have to pick some up before the trip...

There are only two reasons that I go to Mantua.

1. Taking kids that really want to catch lots of fish

2. I have been skunked elsewhere and want to make sure my pole still works.

In other words there are lots of fish to be caught and its a blast with the kids. I have had a daughter catch some 12" bass on her princess pole. I generally just look for the holes in the weeds and let the kids drop their lines straight down the best part is you can watch many fish take the bait. I think the real key is using worms on a small jig head. This is a realativly easy place to fish especially if you can get out on the water with a boat or tube.

I will be up there on Friday with a few of my daughters and some friends. So good luck.

pennyfarmer is right. I was up there today, and all we used were small jigs and even plain hooks with a tiny piece of perch meat. Watch the surface for the "boils" too. Those fish are extremely agressive and big!

Hummmm,
Reading over my response and the other responses makes me think that I wasn't very helpful, sorry about that. I was just trying to explain what I do in hope that it would help. Next time I'll try to do better,[unimpressed].

Leaky, you posted very good imformation. I just had some time to post what worked for me this week at Mantua.
Don't feel that what you posted wasn't helpful. The archives and old posts are very useful if we know where they are and how to use them.

Well there you have it, the good, the bad and the ugly of the BFT board. I warned you. Just take the negativity with a grain of salt (maybe in an ice cold beer with a slice of lime)[sly]. There are some great guys on this board. Don't let first impressions get the best of you. Remember a great home brew is always just acouple doors. Good luck tomorrow.
