[cool][#0000ff]Perch and smallies will go deeper at Lake X, but the trout will come up and get more active near the surface. A good time for bubble and fly or shallow retrieves with hardware. You will have to go deep for the perch and smallies, with vertical jigging and drop shot rigs. Sonar will be vital.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]The boils will shut down on Willard as the shad go deep and the predators follow. It will be back to early spring patterns of trolling deeper, and maybe slower. Wipers will still be active and the walleyes should become more active. Good time to do some bottom bouncing with crawler rigs. Catfish will still hit baits and some lures. Start looking for crappies to move inside the marinas also. [/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Once the water temps drop below 65 on Utah Lake, the walleyes will be putting on the feed bag all around the lake. However, the best places to find them in numbers will be off the rock shelves at the west side of Lincoln Beach. Use sonar to find the channels and dropoffs and fish the structure and breaklines. Use light heads on jigs to cut down the "donations" to the rock gods.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Also a good time to fish minnows on corky rigs...both for walleyes and cats. Cats will still munch bait but they become slower and bite better late in the day, after the water warms a couple of degrees from the early morning low temps. They will not be in close to reeds but will often come shallower in the afternoon for warmer temps and can be taken on bait under a bobber, set just above the bottom.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]The white bass often turn on in the cooler weather of fall too. Use plastics on tandem rigs...using two different colors until you find what they prefer. Whites, chartreuse, two tones, black, purple and hot pink are all good colors to throw this time of year. Small silver spinners and shallow running crankbaits can also produce well. Tipping with a piece of worm, white bass or perch meat sometimes improves the action.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]You didn't mention Deer Creek, but there are reports that the walleyes are hitting now. Also some nice trout coming near the surface early mornings. Still some smallies near shore, but they will be going deeper soon. And, with the cooler weather the power squadron is wimping out and staying home.[/#0000ff] [signature]

[cool][#0000ff]I figured it would start your motor running. But, first you gotta unlock those chains...from work and home.[/#0000ff]

Thanks Pat, I've been toying with the idea of hitting the "nelle"this weekend, just have to make sure I can arrange my schedule to fit it in, this would be the best weekend to go, next weekend Dakota has a Jumper show at the South Jordan Equestrian Park on the Polo grounds and in the indoor arena she may be showing in the Youth Saddle Arab show so that weekend is shot.

[cool][#0000ff]I think the big issue this weekend will be the weather front and not dropping temps...yet. You will have wind and rain to contend with, but the fish should not move too far until the temp drops a few degrees.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Sorry. I wish I could have left a stash of the nice sunny weather we had Tuesday for you to pick up at the "will call" window for your fishing trip.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Good luck to Dakota. Hope she makes her daddy proud(er).[/#0000ff] [signature]

Just watched the news and it does not look like a great weekend for fishing. High temps for Saturday is in the middle 50's with rain & Sunday low 60's and wet with snow in the upper elevations all the way down to 7000ft.
