New with a question
#1
Hi, I'm new to BFT and float tubing, but been fishing all my life. I have enjoyed looking at the archives and lurking around the message boards. I just got a ODC 420 and can't wait to get out on a pond and try it. My previous experience was with an off-brand u-tube that wasn't rated for a person my size, so it was difficult to maneuver but I had fun anyway.

My questions regard the ODC 420. I would like to get some kind of storage bag for it when it is deflated and being transported. I haven't had much luck finding something that will handle the size and shape considering the rigid seats. Has anyone else found a bag that will work? Has anyone tried making a bag - if so, what did you use for material? I assume it would have to be a least partially breathable mesh or maybe some grommets would be adequate.

Thanks for any info. Look forward to hanging out here.

[black]Every year at the Sprtsmen's show, these people are here with GREAT prices in bags of all shapes and sizes. I have bout three for out Fat Cats and the Escalade:[/black]
[black]The company is called Wedtern Pack Products and I just found this off of Amazon, but if you look up the Co. you might find better deals. I think we paid $15. for ours and big enough for tube, flippers and a vest. [/black]

Thank you! That looks like an ideal option. I'll check the web some more for prices, but even at $23 dollars its a fair price (have to see the shipping charge though).

[cool][#0000ff]Welcome to our playroom. Keep us posted on your results and opinions on your new ride.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I couldn't tell from your profile where you live so I can't make specific recommendations. However, if you have a military surplus outlet in your area that is a good place to find lots of bags in all sizes and price ranges. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Here in Salt Lake, we also have a big discount operation that sells closeout sporting goods. They often have great buys on clothing, bags and other items that are good for tubing and tooning. I picked up a couple of good waterproof stuff bags to put behind my seat for about a third of normal retail price.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Just a thought...you might also consider one of those big plastic storage bins. They come in all shapes and sizes and I'm sure that Walmart, Home Depot or some other "big box" store would have one suitable for a tube. My craft never stay idle long enough to worry about storing. And, when transporting deflated, for extra space, I just roll them up, secure them with a bungee cord, stash them in my vehicle and boogie down the road. If I need still more room inside I strap them to my cartop luggage rack. A couple of bugs on the covers doesn't hurt them much.[/#0000ff]

I thought my profile had a location - I'm in Boise.

What is the name of the discount store in Salt Lake? I'll be passing through on my way to Tooele in a couple of weeks and could maybe make a stop. I hadn't thought about storage bins, that might work pretty good and cheap too.

Thanks for the tips - if the weather cooperates I'm going to try to get out this weekend, maybe Bruneau Dunes. I post a report after that.

Hi RD,

The difficulty with storage of the ODC 420 is the two foam seat inserts. The tube cover will go nearly anywhere. I am currently using an Outcast Float Tube Boat Bag. It will carry the ODC quite effectively, along with flippers and waders. Also does well with the FC4 and Fat Cat. I slip the foam inserts out of the seat and store them upright in the bag with the rest stored beside it. Kind of spendy at $53 so you can probably do better price wise by searching for a different solution. If you have the money though, this is a great solution.
