Wind at Strawberry?
#1
One quick question:

So my wife and I got work off on Wednesday, so we could go fish Strawberry. [Tongue]
Only problem is I'm worried bout the wind and waves I've read a lot about up there, and how they'll effect my wife's belly and random morning sickness.

Any of you found a good indicator of how to predict the wind and rough water up there? Maybe the wind forecast for Heber City? Or the cloud cover, or temperatures, or previous days, etc.??? We are planning on going, but if it's going to be white caps, I'd rather not try to make my wife ride them out in my inflatable canoe.

We were thinking of launching around the ladders, but I've heard that the Renegade area can stay calm, when the rest of the lake is rough... Is this true???

Any tips on predictions would be appreciated. Or if you think regardless, I'm safe if I head for Renegade, let me know.

We're headed up first thing tomorrow (Wed) morning.

thanks in advance!

I've not had any method for predicting winds at Berry be very accurate. It can be blowing hard in the valleys and no wind at the Berry or the opposite can be true. One thing is for sure, there will a breeze come across the lake around 11 Am. Fall is usually one of the calmest times on the lake. The afteroon heating is not as high as it is in summer , so the cool lake water convection doesn't create as much afternoon wind. I do agree if the winds come out of the southwest ( as they usually do in the afternoon) the best place to be is on the Renegade side.

If your worried about wind and your wife , then go over to the Renegade side and enjoy the lake. It's not worth being worried about the wind all day or having someone get sick trying to get back to the dock.

The wind was bad today. It pickup at about 11:00 am and lasted until about 6:00 pm. As I’m typing this my monitor is moving up and down, I wish it would hold still. The fish didn’t start biting until around 10:30 right before the wind picked up I then spent and hour trying to get my anchor to hold so I could catch the school of fish I had found. Once I got it to hold I was catching a fish ever 15 minutes for from about 1:00 until 4:00. I ended up with a nice 24 inch 4 lbs cut as my 12 fish out of about 20 today. I also hooked 3 chubs in a row after I got my anchor to hold. Not a bad day on the Berry now if I could get the room to quite moving up and down.

You can almost set your clock to the wind picking up at 11:00am.
