Report from Rivers End Tackle
#1

UPDATED BY PAT ON FRIDAY, October 6th,
2006

STRIPED BASS- The activity along the Old Saybrook- Waterford shoreline
has picked up. Schoolies and a few jumbos have been caught with
regularity at the Niantic River, Causeway and some of the Town beaches.
Chunkers have caught a few from the DEP Piers and Saybrook Point. Casters
have been taking schoolies around Plum Island and the Gulls. Some larger
bass are being taken in the Race, particularly on live bait. Bunker are
still in the harbors from Guilford to the Thames, they are starting to
thin out in spots.

BLUEFISH- The biggest blues are closest to the bunker. The traditional
Race and Gut fishing is productive but the blues are half the size of
the ones in the Connecticut River. Chunkers are scoring from the DEP
Piers, Causeway and Saybrook Point. Most days they can be caught with
regularity casting plugs along Great Island and the Bars along the River
Mouth. They have been occasionally blitzing the Old Saybrook and
westbrook Town Beaches. When they're not showing chunkers are still scoring at
those beaches.

PORGIES- The cooling waters haven't slowed the action at the local
reefs such as Hatchetts, Southwest and Bartletts.

BLACKFISH- Mixed reports have come in again this week from Hatchetts
and Southwest Reefs. Few limits are taken with sizes running from shorts
to 9 pounds. Its still on the early side.

FALSE ALBACORE- A few more reports this week from Watch Hill, the Race
and Gardiners Island. A few spottings at Black Point and even Long Sand
Shoal. Some Bonito were in the mix earlier this week at Pine Island.
This looks like another just fair season.

BLUE CRABS- Its late but some big crabs were taken this week in the
Connecticut and Oyster Rivers.

BONEFISH- No they're not running in the River, but we are putting a
small group trip together to the Bahamas this February. Call or Email
Pat for details. 860-388-2283
