[cool][#0000ff]Hey Leaky, glad you got out but sorry the fish are leaving the shoreline. Happens that way when the fall water temps drop. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Smallmouth usually go deep for the winter. They still feed and can still be caught, if you sonar them and vertical jig the right lures. But, not good to bring them up from that depth if you wanna release them.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Lots of different fish move into the deep rocky areas near the dam when it gets cold. It can be a good place for perch and even some deep crappies. I fished it through the ice a couple of times last winter and the fish were in 50 feet of water. A couple of guys fishing a deeper spot were catching smallies through the ice.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Yep, just about time to tuck the smallies in for the winter.[/#0000ff]

Those smallies seem to dissappear during the clold weather months. Like Pat said, they tend to go deep, and are tough to catch. Of course if you plan on releasing a few into the frying pan, then no harm in catching one or two from places that are loaded with them. Nice report Fred, I just wish the fish were a little more cooperative for you and the Sparkinator.
