Video...tubing for trout and pike
#1
[cool][#0000ff]Since some of us are winding down the soft water fishing and waiting for the hard deck on our favorite ponds, there is not as much fishing going on. For those who are suffering withdrawal symptoms, here is a link to a video on[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]It was posted on the tubing board but I thought Utah anglers might enjoy it too. It was shot in Scotland, so you gotta work with the accent. Sounds kinda like someone from Sanpete County.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]For newbie tubers, please disregard the suggestions about putting on your fins first and then climbing into the old donut style tube. Way too dangerous...but funny.[/#0000ff]

Eye there Laddie. Looks like the British are getting into the tubing side of fishing. That was the first tube I've seen in the British Isles. I'm going to have to figure out how to take my tube along the next time I'm over there. They thought I was just another "crazy Yank" when I told them carp are considered a lower class of fish where I come from. But I can say the pike fishing is a blast.

P.S. The accent was Irish.

[cool][#0000ff]Over on the float tubing board we get a lot of "drop-ins" from all over the world...Okinawa, Japan, Germany, British Isles, Netherlands, etc. We have several regulars from Canada.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]There is a growing interest in tubing all over the world but the problem is getting gear at a reasonable price. Most of it is US made and the shipping and duties are outrageous. The costs of getting the gear to overseas tubers often doubles and triples the cost.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Lots of lakes and lochs in the Isles that are ideal for tubing and tooning. Unfortunately, many of them are private and fishable only with an expensive daily lease...and the angler must be accompanied by a guide. In some places in Europe fishing is available only to the well-heeled and prestigious anglers.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]You are right about the carp. In fact, as you have probably already observed, they have "matches" in the British Isles that focus on "rough fish"...carp, tench, loach and other members of the minnow family that we would disdane in Utah. But, the refined gear and bait systems they use would really be ideal for much of the fishing we do here. It has already been proven as deadly on bluegill and other panfish.[/#0000ff]
