[cool][#0000ff]This winter ice season is shaping up a lot like last year. In mid December we were all still wondering if any of the lakes would freeze solid. Then, after a series of warm storms (like we have coming in) the bottom fell out of the thermometer for a couple of weeks and everything tightened up. By mid January Rockport, Jordanelle and the other perch holes all had good ice. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I can't predict the weather but I can predict that I ain't goin' out there until somebody else has been there...and have caught fish. My pioneering and thrillseeker tendencies are not what they used to be. Still a bit wacko sometimes, but I have a much stronger survival instinct.[/#0000ff]

[cool]I agree with TubeDude that it's too warm right now and conditions up there could be dangerous. However, it looks like one of those cold snaps that TD was talking about that happened last year, is ON THE WAY. According to the forcasts, the rest of this week into the weekend is supposed to be quite warm (i.e., highs around 50 and lows in the 30s) but a cold snap is on the way after that, and hopefully it will last for a couple weeks to freeze everything up good before Christmas...

My bet is, AT LEAST Rock Cliffs will be good to go by New Years, but most likely, most of the lake should have a good cap by then. We might get lucky and Rock Cliffs might be good to go for Jumbo perch by Christmas. Let's keep our fingers crossed...

I went to Southern Idaho today and the ice is melting around the edges making it more difficult to get on. There was about an inch of water on the ice by the time we left.
We need much colder temps or we won't be ice fishing in the next couple of days.
Just thought some of you may wan't to know the conditions around Preston Idaho. We caught trout from 12" to 19" Bass from 12" to 15". And a bunch of small perch. All on the Ice Cut'r with the tail split.
Good Luck, and good fishing!

hey Maniac, which of the Preston Area Lakes do you prefer to fish? I fished Winder last weekend, but that's the only one I've been to in years. Any that might be better than others? I hear Treasureton is usually pretty good.

I wouldn't dare Hot Spot, for fear of a huge retaliation from our Idaho Brothers![cool]
I Did fish Winder today, small perch was all we caught.

On saturday there at Winder I iced a couple fat Rainbows, but that was it... a very slow day on the ice. One in our group caught a few nice largemouth bass, and another guy caught some perch as well.
wish we would have tried Treasureton instead! [pirate]
