Scofield Thur 12-14-06
#1
my dad, brother, and I went to Scofield today from sunup to around 3 pm. we fished the dam arm, just like last week. the fishing was just as fast as last week, but the fish were quite a bit smaller on average. we did however manage a couple bows around 18 inches. also, unlike last week, we actually caught a few tiger trout. one, which my brother caught, was around 16 inches. they are a cool fish!

anyways, the bites were subtle and the fish preferred small jigs. i dont know what theyre called, but a glow in the dark bug was the hot bait today. mealworms and nightcrawlers both worked for tipping the jigs with. we also caught a few on small, size 12, glow rat finkies.

it was very warm today, but the ice was a clear and solid 9 inches. most of the snow melted off of the surface today creating some minor slush. it was a little wierd around the cracks because the ice was pretty foggy.(at the end of the day) i think i'll go duck hunting tomorrow and let the ice firm up a bit!

here is a picture of what the ice looked like as we were leaving. (the dam arm) it was still safe, but it looked a little harry. i wonder what another day or two of warmth could do to it?

Good report. I was wondering how the ice was holding up on the higher lakes. Crazy warm weather.

Thanks for the report. We had snobiles on the ice last week-end going across the lake, and was thinking about doing the same tour this week-end. In your opinion is the ice safe enough for the sleds?
