Lake Conway drawdown extended through Jan. 1
#1
MAYFLOWER - The drawdown of LakeConway that was scheduled to end Dec. 15 has been extended until Jan. 1, 2007.

The lake has been drawn down five feet since July 15 for maintenance purposes, allowing landowners around the lake and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to make repairs and shoreline improvements.

Recent rainfall has raised the lake level by almost two feet, forcing a two-week extension of the drawdown so shoreline projects may be completed.

During the drawdown, privately owned piers and boathouses were permitted, repaired and removed in compliance with AGFC regulations. Many property owners took advantage of the drawdown by removing sediments around their docks, constructing fish attractors and repairing eroded shorelines. Since mid-July, the AGFC Licensing Division has issued more than 500 permits for previously non-permitted structures on the lake.

AGFC used the drawdown to make repairs to boat ramps and improve fishing piers. The AGFC also repaired the lake's dam gates and built a new boat ramp at the dam site.

Additional work is scheduled for the dam in the near future, including the replacement of two pipes under the earthen portion of the dam. The work will require the closure of Dam Road for several days.

More information is available from the AGFC's Mayflower Fisheries Office at (501) 470-3309, ext. 212.
