Hey all,
I've fished out of quite a few ice fishing shacks and I've been keeping mental score of what I like and don't like about each kind. I do 99% of my fishing with just one other person and we don't have snowmobiles or 4 wheelers, so for me, I wanted a lightweight, quick to set up shack. I know that the cons are that I have to anchor it and that it has no floor.
What is your opinion on the Quick FISH II?
($139 at Sportsmans right now)

I have the quik fish III. It is perfect for two people with a chairs, a heater, and a fishfinder. I think it would be crowded with 3 full size guys in there. I wouldn't want any smaller than the III. Pay the extra 30 bucks and get the III. Still only 23 pounds and a little extra shoulder room is nice!

[black]Yesterday, on an undisclosed lake at an undisclosed location near Heber City, we had two Quickfish III shelters in use. They went up pretty fast and have plenty of room. We did splinter one of the fiberglass struts from applying too much pressure but one call to Ardisam and 4 new struts are on their way. The anchors were pretty nice and even yanking as hard as a guy could, they held firm.[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]Last night, I talked to Jeremy, the fishing Dept manager at the Riverdale Sportsman's and he said a lot of the QuickFish shelters are being returned for two reasons. One, the zippers on the doors are failing and two, splintering fiberglass struts. Struts are easy to replace but zippers are another thing.[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]I like the concept if I had to tow a shelter by hand. It's everything you're looking for. Light weight, east to set up and very roomy. I'd be concerned about it in a high winds, even with the provide anchors. I'd also consider buying a few addition anchors to use if you thought you needed additional stability.[/black]

Where you just pulling on the hub to set it up? I just don't want the same to happen to mine so whatever info you can give would be helpful! [red]I was my brilliant enginuity that splintered the tent rod on the quickfish 3 yesterday. I broke it while I was setting it up. For some reason it opened into itself when I pulled the tabs. Same thing happened a week before when CBR opened his QF2. But we managed to get his up without breaking a rod.[/red]
[red][/red]
[red]When I called Ardisam to get a replacement part they said this has been a problem and they are learning that by zipping the door prior to taking them down, it will prevent them opening into themselves on next usage.[/red]
[red]I have also learned that you can set them up on your own, but if you have someone to help you it helps a ton. I cant remember how IFG exactly described how I put mine up by myself, but it was something to the fact of a big green woman attacking me.
[/red][red]They also have re-engineered the zippers and fixed that problem. [/red]
[red][/red]
[red]Ardisam has some of the best customer service of any company I have ever dealt with. I have a eskimo auger I have needed a replacement gas cap and blade cover, they send parts free of charge including shipping, no questions asked. Same for the replacement parts for the QF3.[/red]

I love mine(QFIII). I have no problem with the zipper and have not split any poles. I push in the side to zip the door up or down and it works fine. As for the room, i fished with 2 adults on causey and it was tight but doable. I had to adults and 3 kids on Mantua in it and it was very cramped but still possible. 2 adults is very nice. Just ask Petty, he shared it with me on Causey after he got cold.[ ] My advice, get the QF3 and you will be happy with the room and ease of set-up.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Some of you know me personally and that means you know how antsy I am at times. I went over to Sportsmans and they didn't have any QFIII's and only ONE QFII left...so I bought the QFII! I set it up a couple times in my living room just to get used to it.
Going to try it out on an all nighter at the Berry tomorrow (Friday) night!

Polo, I'm still . What does this mean "[#ff0000] For some reason it opened into itself when I pulled the tabs." "by zipping the door prior to taking them down, it will prevent them opening into themselves on next usage."[#000000] [/#000000]
[/#ff0000] [#ff0000][#000000]I own one of these tents and I can't figure out what that means? Mine has the old style zipper (straight down the corner of the tent rather then the new D shaped doors). I have never zipped it shut before taking the tent down and have never had any problem putting it up (even by myself). Please help! Thanks![/#000000][/#ff0000]

Honestly Bigcat I am as on how this happened as you are. I have used the quickfish 4 times now. The first 3 with no problem. The other day when I was pulling the tabs to open it up, for some reason two of the bottom legs folded into the middle of one of the sides, causing one of the metal hockey puck looking legs to wedge into a corner in the tent. Very hard to explain, when I asked the people at Ardisam, they said they have had this happen and through R/D they said to zip the door shut before taking it down to avoid this happening when resetting it up.
Even though this what could be freak event occured with this tent, I am still very pleased with the convienence and performance of the QF3.
On a side note, if there is a chance it could break, it will happen to me. HAHAHA

Ok, glad I'm not the only one ! [ ] I guess I will just make it a habit to zip the zipper closed each time before folding it up and hope for the best. I have had mine for over a year now and haven't used it very much but have liked it the times I have used it. Quick, light, easy, and the price is right! Thanks for the information!

My buddy borrowed my Quick Fish III tent today and when he was folding it up this evening (it was -10 at Strawberry by this time) one of the struts shattered. He was even being extra careful since hearing about others having breaking problems. I am going to call Ardisam and hopefully they will be as eager to replace them for me as they were for you. I wonder if there is anything that can be done differently to prevent this from happening?

[black]Hey Bigcat,[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]I have been looking into these tents with the intent on getting one as well. It's good that folks have shared their experiences so I can know what to expect and try to avoid the same kind of mishap. [/black]
[black][/black]
[black]So far, what I have learned is that it may be a good idea to bring some duct tape along just in case. Let us know how Ardisam responds to your inquiry and request.[/black]

My father bought one and really liked it at first. BUT within just a few hours of use the cross-bar locking mechanisms wore out and would no longer stay locked in place. The tent would no longer stay poped-out into the position. He ended up taking it back to Sportsman's. They did admit to him that a few other tents had been returned for the same reason.

You guys are helping me feel much better about the confusing information on eBay that led me to purchase an Ice Cube instead of the Quick Fish 3. Now, I will probably find another thread about all of the problems that people are having with the Ice Cube.

Doh...I just traded in the QFII for a QFIII...
I think I read where one has to make sure the door is zipped shut before folding it up to prevent the poles from breaking?
I haven't used mine yet...I'll let everyone know how it worked (as well as the fishing) tomorrow.
I still haven't found any other shack as lightweight and/or portable, so as long as they warranty it if it breaks, I guess I'm good.

[black]The strut pretty much shattered. Duct tape would have not been of any assistance. Now maybe with some super glue and bailing wire......[ ] I am encouraged that when BLM called them they immediately sent him 4 new struts. If only one broke that leave 3 extra for future problems. I haven't looked but they can't be that hard to change out. [/black]

I took our 4 man ice cube out on EC today. I have had it since Christmas but this is the first time I felt cold enough to use. The ice cube was a little bit difficult to put up just due to our inexperience. We had it down and in the bag in less than 5 minutes. It performed admirably. I also splurged and bought a Mr. Heater. What can I say it was down right balmy inside the shelter at what were probably subzero temps today.
I will keep you posted on how the cube continues to perform especially if we encounter wind.
