mora, not sweden
#1
I've always liked my Mora auger, and even last year got one for my son. But just ordered one for son-in-law-to-be for Xmas, and on opening noted it was bit different than mine and my sons. Looked at box, and sure enough, "Made in China". Not the stainless blades and bolts (glad I have some new, old-stock spares squirreled away). Even the blade cover fits poorly different because the strap will not go through the support that goes from the screw to the cutting blades (those of you that have a Mora know what I mean).

Guess we'll find out for ourselves how it cuts, but still kinda dissapointed.

Sorry to hear about the cheapout. I got a mora strikemaster 6" hand drill for christmas and it says right on it made in sweeden, the screws are stainless and the blades look like a high carbon stainless blade. I havnt cut with mine yet though.

Did you happen to buy yours at walmart?

I picked up a new Lazer at Cabela's today and didn't notice the made in China thing until I saw your post. If you look at the box you can see thru the made in China sticker and see made in Sweden underneath printed on the box. I noticed the blades also say made in China. If it doesn't work worth a s--- it's going back. [unsure]

Thats strange I bought a new 8" lazer on ebay about a month ago and the box and blades say made in Sweden. You would think that the made in china stuff would show on ebay and not at Cabelas. Cabelas trying to set higher standards, but I guess not.

It would really suck if all strikemaster production went to china. They just don't keep up the quality when companies start outsourcing manufacturing.

Seems that Strikemaster has moved new production to China, but that there is still some stock of Seden-made augers to be had. Proof will be in the cuttin', but could have went out and gotten a HT auger or other if I'd known.

[cool]Thanks for the heads up. Sounds like I may need to finally breakdown and get one then before the ones made in Sweden completely disappear...

Has anybody tried out their "made in China" Mora's yet since buying it? Does it cut just as well as the traditional ones do? MAYBE I don't have anything to worry about here, but I'd like to know how the China product is working on the harddeck...

[cool][#0000ff]I got a Chinese Mora two weeks ago at Big 5. It cuts fine but the top part of the handle keeps coming off. The real deal is a much better made product.[/#0000ff]

Used the new Strikemaster Lazer made in China yesterday at Pineview (Solid 6 inches of ice) It cut fine. We will have to see how long these blades stay sharp before I make my decision. [cool]

[cool]Thanks for your review of the product. Sounds like I'd better start looking hard for a Sweden made one somehow...

You could do like the guy who came down by us yesterday at Pineview with an ice auger and then pulled out a claw hammer and started beating on an old frozen hole with it. All he had to do is move a few inches one way and cut a new hole. I don't know if TubeDude caught that or not, but I was cracking up. That helped alot with the fish bite and shortly after that we moved to another area. We ended up fishing in much shallower water (30 Ft.) and ended up with 51 perch that went from 9 to 10 1/2 inches. It was shallow enough that we could return the smaller ones, I never did see any come back up. We did notice alot of 2 in. perch dead under the ice, I'm not a biologist so I'm not sure what is causing this.[Smile]
