Took the old man up to C.C.E. for a new year fishing trip. Dad caught 6 and I caught 4. We got up there about 7:00 in the am. There were quite afew people up there already but we didn't have any problem finding a parking spot. Fishing was slow all around from discussions I had with other anglers. We used rat finkys (which we did the best on), white tube jigs and other small ice flies tipped with wax and meal worms and also minnows. The fish we did catch averaged 20.5" and were thick, they were a blast to fight up through the ice. The ice was a sturdy 8" thick; I have to mention that I have never heard a lake moan and creak like it was yesterday, it was constant. Fishing might have be slow but being out with the old man and enjoying the outdoors was well worth the trip.

[black]I was the guy sitting on the chair as you walked by (Green coat coyote fur collar). I remember you telling me that you had caught 4 and your dad 6. [/black]

[black]Most of the other folks that walked by me yesterday where I was sitting, told me they had only caught one or two - so you guys did pretty well.[/black]

Its sounds like you had a good time. I went up to the Ladder's last Saturday and fishing was also very slow. I only caught 1 fish and my Dad ended up with four. Nice fat fish though, just under the slot. No one else in our group caught anything. We moved all over the place trying to find a spot with fish, but to no avail. We tried out as deep as 30 feet and as shallow as 10. Where were they? When we got back to the car we talked with some guys that said they did pretty well, Later we found out they were fishing really deep, 50 feet of water. I guess that's where the fish were.

Good seeing you, we should have done the BTF wave (just kidding) I usually ask other anglers if they are BFTers.

Hey BHOOKED You know I was looking at the moon in the morning and wondering if it would effect the fishing but I thought to my self na not under 8" of ice; still don't know if effected the fishing or not but its the only thing I could think of. I'll have to go back up when the moon isn't full or close to and find out.

Hey
I took a friend to the ladders 01-01, we got there probably around 9am and I iced one immediatley and had two more on that got off within a few minutes of that... Then nothing, so we moved and immidiatley caught another fish, then I moved around every ten minutes, if i didnt get a hit in 10 I jigged it around for a minute then moved on, I got a couple of hits and iced another 20" by moving the jig fairly vigorously. pretty slow but for me the trick (weak as it was) was just to keep moving.
I was using a Berkly Gulp 3" white minnow and a night crawler. And the ice was really making some noise.
