BROOD STOCK SALMON ANGLER DIARIES DUE JANUARY 15
#1
ONCORD, N.H. - Anglers who bought a brood stock salmon license in 2006 have until January 15, 2007, to turn in their angler diaries to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. Printable salmon diaries can be downloaded at http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Fishing/...salmon.htm, or call (603) 271-2501 to request by mail.

Anglers who send in a diary postmarked by the deadline will be entered into a raffle drawing. Last year, prizes for the salmon diary raffle included a Sage 9-foot fly rod with case and a Hatch Monsoon 56 fly reel, both donated by Kittery Trading Post, and a framed Atlantic salmon print from Fish and Game. Fish and Game anticipates giving away similar donated prizes in this year's raffle. The drawing takes place at the June meeting of the N.H. Fish and Game Commission.

Brood stock salmon anglers are asked to keep a voluntary journal of their catches, providing valuable data (such as catch rates, fish distribution and length of fishing trip) that Fish and Game uses to manage the fishery.

Although the past two brood stock salmon seasons have been limited by the impacts of spring and fall flooding, the outlook is promising for the spring of 2007, says Jon Greenwood, coordinator of Fish and Game's Merrimack brood stock program. "We'll be stocking some big fish this spring. Brood stock anglers will, for the first time ever during the program, have an opportunity to catch a salmon weighing as much as 20 pounds," said Greenwood. "We can't predict the weather, but the fish will be there!"
