Hyrum Reservoir Report
#1
I got out to hyrum from 7:30 am to about 1:30 this afternoon. I fished midlake near the state park. The ice was just over 4 inches and good and hard. There was still some open water out in the middle, and it did look to me like the ice wasn't consistent everywhere on the lake so be careful if you go! I caught 3 nice browns (a first for me on Hyrum), 3 pretty small rainbows, and 3 microsocopic perch (they were about 4 inches long). The perch wouldn't leave my jig alone early in the morning, but they were so small I didn't hook up on very many. There were several people fishing up near the dam, and only a couple of other groups on the upper end of the lake. They didn't venture out very far though, so I don't know how good the ice was. Man was it cold - snowning most the time I was there, and the wind was howling!

Sweet! I've never caught a Brown out of Hyrum. Sounds like you had a good day (except for that wind of course!).

If the weather stays this cold for a few days, I'm sure Hyrum will be iced over completely very soon.

That is surprising you caught 3 browns. I grew up in Hyrum (well, never really quite grew up) and fished it all of the time. I can't ever really remember catching a brown. But I have heard there are a few in there.

I always caught the blugill and perch on the south side by devils half acre. I always caught the trout on the far west end.

It can be a great lake to fish if you hit it just right.
