Rock Cliffs 12 January 07
#1
I drove past the Rock Cliffs arm of Jordanelle yesterday evening just as it was geting dark. I didn't see much difference in how far out the ice was from the end of the bay. Of course, the main reservoir was still open water--with lots of steam coming off of it. Anybody go up to Rock Cliffs today and try fishing through the ice? I'm thinking of going Monday, but I don't want to go until the ice has extended out over the deep water.

I should add that the air temperature was just above zero when I drove by Rock Cliffs. I"m sure it got a lot colder in the night. That's what makes me think the ice should start moving westward pretty soon.

Thanks for the update. Now, give us the story about the pic in your avatar. I have never seen anyone icefish from a dock before. Looks like a pretty good idea. Was it in Utah??

It will grow with these cold nights. That steam you see is the heat coming out of the water. Energy lost.
The ice will extend in the rock cliff arm, will it reach the 50' depths? I don't know. I do know every frozen body of water will get thicker and all part frozen waters will be more frozen when this cold is over. I hope we get a few more just like it.

The avatar picture was taken last month at Lindon Boat Harbor. The ice was still quite thin, and the fish seemed to be hiding in the shelter of the dock anyway. I don't usually fish from a dock or a reclining position, but it made a nice picture.

We fished Rock Cliffs this afternoon and we were able to walk at least 1/2 way to the buoys. The ice got just less than 3" thick.
