#1
ANNAPOLIS—The Maryland Fisheries Service announced today that the new 2007 Fishing Guide has been released and will replace the 2006-2007 Guide issued in April of 2006. The new guide has a blue cover and anglers are encouraged to pick up the new guide and discard the green 2006-2007 copy.

Several new regulations highlight the 2007 Guide.
Closure dates for Put-and-Take Trout Fishing areas for 2007 are: closure 0 – no closure; closure 1 – March 11 to March 31; closure 2 - March 25 to March 31; closure 3 – April 15 to April 21; and, closure 4 – April 22 to April 28.

The old Delayed Harvest Trout Fishing area on the Savage River has been deleted and replaced with a new management area. On page 12, new section “Zero Creel Limit Areas for Brook Trout” lists areas that are established on the Savage River and all tributaries above the Savage River Reservoir Dam, excluding impoundments and Put-and-Take Trout Fishing areas (Savage River Reservoir, New Germany Lake, and Savage River from reservoir upstream to Poplar Lick Run). These areas have a zero daily and possession creel limit for brook trout; all other trout species have a daily and possession limit of two per day. These areas have no closed season, and artificial flies and lures may be used as tackle. No bait is allowed in these areas.

Changes were made to the Put-and-Take Trout Fishing area on the Youghiogheny River at Oakland. The Put-and-Take section extends from the upstream side of the Route 42 bridge downstream 0.4 miles to a site 50 yards downstream of Maple Street (at Minnow Run), with a 0 closure. A new Delayed Harvest for Trout Fishing area was established below this point on the Yough, from the site in Friendsville 50 yards downstream of Maple Street (at Minnow Run) downstream to the gas-line crossing upstream of the Youghiogheny Reservoir.

In Chesapeake Bay, the striped bass spring trophy season will open April 21 and go through May 15. Anglers are encouraged to pick up a copy of the 2007 guide for up-to-date Maryland fishing information.
