The Nelle Feb 13th

Went up to Jordanelle this morning for a couple of hours. Fished just out from the ramp right around the no wake zone buoy. Caught a few SMALL perch but did manage to score a pretty nice brown. There were 2 other people fishing and they did have a few perch but nothing spectacular by any means.......I am headed to Strawberry this weekend and would appreciate any advice anyone has for fishing up there. I have only fished through the ice there once before for about 3 hours and managed to catch 1 that was under the slot. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I would recommend getting as far away from the crowds as possible. There are lots of posts on here about what to use, but generally I have had better luck with smaller tackle later on in the year up there. Also, don't be afraid to move around to locate fish. If you haven't caught fish or a least had a bite in the first fifteen to twenty minutes then move.

[cool]Ice is pretty thick right now (around 24 inches, probably) so take a power auger. If you don't have one, rent one from the marina. Also, use smaller ice fly's this time of year, such as a chartruese colored Genz Worm, and tip with chub meat, mealie, or waxie. Good luck. Also, stay about one or two cranks off the bottom unless you have a finder and see the fish suspended in the column.

The Marina rents power augers? Do tell. How much? What size? What hours?

Remember, now that the camera is up at J, Smile and wave once in a while for those of us who are watching.

The BEST tip for this time of year is to drop down to 4 lb. test.

Thanks Chester......you realize that this is all your fault right? You are responsible for creating this new obsession of drilling holes in the ice, sitting out in the cold and chanting...."here fishy fishy"........

You coming to Strawberry on Saturday with us? Sounds like its just going to be my little brother and I.

Obsession? Ice fishing is an addiction! I'm sorry, but there is probably no cure for you now. Ran across some poles to day, so I can set your wife up. Fair is fair. Maybe she can fish tomorrow and you can watch.

Strawberry? Probably not. I think I will be headed to Wyo for the long weekend. Chase some yotes, and maybe some fish. Good luck on the berry, there's no stopping you now!

Your gonna miss out, but a coyote or two might not be so bad.

Let me know what I owe you for the poles, and "nothing" is not going to work
