Pompano, Hogfish, Snapper & Huge Sheepshead: SW FL Fishbuster Dave

[cool][font "Arial"][size 2]We fished Monday 8 miles off Naples in 4 foot seas and 15-20 knot winds, despite predictions for 2 foot seas and 10 knots. David & Sally Bloomfield, joined by David’s parents, had a productive day, catching a dozen keeper mangrove snapper to 15 inches, two keeper pompano, sheepshead to 17 inches, keeper-sized triggerfish & porkfish, and a 15 inch hogfish. We released all but one sheepshead, all the triggerfish and porkfish, as well as gag grouper shorts to 19 inches, All were caught on live shrimp. Tuesday, the Steve Alfoldy party fished with us in 32 feet, off Bonita Beach. We caught nice mangrove snapper to 18 inches, and large sheepshead to 19 inches, and released grouper shorts, and triggerfish. Rod Lindstrom fished with us Wednesday, 9 miles off Bonita Beach. The early morning tide was slow, producing a slow bite until about 11:00 AM, when the sea-breeze picked up. We caught keeper mangrove snapper to 14 inches, sheepshead to 18 inches, porkfish, and triggerfish, keeping enough for dinner, and releasing the rest. The Carl McCall party fished the Bonita reefs with us Thursday, with live shrimp. We caught keeper-sized triggerfish, and lots of nice sheepshead, the biggest one 20 inches, caught by twelve year old, Robert. We also had fun with snapper and gag shorts. We released all catches. Friday John & Josephine Comandini fished the Bonita reefs with us, and we caught more large sheepshead that day than the sum total for the month! We caught 20-30 of them to 20 inches, and released all but two. We also caught a couple dozen keeper mangrove snapper, and released all but six, along with triggerfish and gag grouper shorts. Mike Suave and Dan Gallagher fished Sunday with us, 10 miles off Bonita Beach, and had a very productive day. We caught 60 sheepshead between 15 and 20 inches, twenty keeper mangrove snapper, triggerfish, and cowfish, releasing all but 15 snapper.[/size][/font]
