fish lake 2-18-2/19
#1
after some last minute tips from ironworker, and fuzzyfisher, we went down to fish lake. from the looks of the reports from the weekend, everyone did great. we didnt do too well!

we started out in the areas suggested by those guys and were on the ice by 8:30 pm sunday night. we wanted to be there much earlier, but werent able to make it. all well. has anyone had success night fishing there? we fished until after 10:00. my brother had one hit, and that was it. we fished in 65 feet of water with glowing jigs, hoping macs would night feed. they didnt. we did see quite a few on the finder though.

the next morning we walked out to the same area to fish for macs. i got an 18 inch mac right off the bat, and we thought we were going to have a hayday. that was it. so, after moving around a bit, trying different jigs, etc, we moved in and caught some perch, bows and splake. not the numbers that other people reported catching over the weekend, but enough to make it interesting.

the weather was terrible! it blew and snowed during the night, and most of the day was a blizzard. thank goodness we had two flip tents to stay in! the ice was very slick and had little snow on it, so we left the snowmobile on the trailor sunday night, and in the morning. but, we were able to use it to haul our flip tents back in before we went home because 3 or 4 inches had accumulated during the day. (although it has blown off in some spots already!)

it was our first time down there ice fishing and im looking forward to doing it again. i think i'll take my boat there in the summer and mark some spots with my gps. that should make it a little easier for next year!

thanks again for the tips guys! i think we're off to a good start, and we'll get them next time!

I was at fish lake sat. through mon. The fishing was great on sat. and sunday but the fishing slowed way down on monday for us. The cold front must have played a big part on the bite. Saturday I caught about 15 splake 5 rainbows and about 40 perch fishing right off the weedline in 15 feet of water. On sunday after fishing the weedline and catching about 30 perch in the first couple of hours in the mourning I decided to try out a little deeper for some trout. I went out to fifty feet of water and I started marking fish at 15 feet with the finder. I fished with a chartruese tube jig tipped with perch meat and caught trout like crazy for the next couple of hours. I must have caught 40 trout that day. I caught probably 5 bows in the 2 pound range and 1 in the 3 pound range. Also I saw a fish on the bottom and dropped my jig down there and caught a 3 pound laker. Monday the trout just weren't hitting very well. So I decided to go back to the perch spot and I caught about 50 or so perch with a couple of splake mixed in the bunch and then I had to call it a trip.

We were at the north end of the lake in two eskimo fish tents. I'm not sure what the area was exactly called. I only remember seeing two other tents up that day it must of been you. There weren't too many die hards out on the ice that day.

yeah, that was probably us you saw with our eskimo quick flips. we were not very far from our truck and snowmobile trailor at joes bush. that must of been you just to the east of us. if so, we figured you were doing good because you stayed put all day!

thanks again for the report!
