Line compacity not accurate!
#1
Notice the suggested line compacity for the Okuma CD-50:

Model Gear Ratio Capacity (yds/lb) CD-30 5.0:1 170/8 CD-50 4.5:1 220/12 CD-65 4.5:1 275/15 CD-90 4.5:1 330/25

These are the Power Pro Spec's:

Based on these factory specs, my CD-50 should have held all 330 yards of the 30lb power pro I purchased and spooled on it; but this was not the case, no where near. If I was lucky, I think I might have gotten 150 yard of the 300 yard spool on the reel. I was very disappointed with the misinformation. The problem is that I can't figure if the reel's spec's are off or if the Power Pro Diameter was off. What's the deal with that? I'm fixing to email both companies and get to the bottom of this. LOL, hopefully my hell raising will get one of the companies to fess up and replace my wasted 25 dollar spool of line. [unimpressed]

[black]How much backing did you use and what kind was it ?[/black]

Maybe you could take some Mono line that you are familiar with , and respool the reel to test out the capacity with a known quantity.

I know spooling and respooling a spinning reel can be kind of a hassle (not to mention expensive) if you are not set up to do something like that. But, that is what I would do if I were in your situation.

[black]BTW - I looked up on Okuma's website and here is the info they have published about your reel:[/black]

There may be something off with the line. I am able to spool very close to what the specs are with just mono. Did you check the back side???[Image: moon.gif]

Yes'sir, that's the reel. I didn't put a backing on the reel at all. It's not neccesary on spinning tackle. Even the Power Pro website says it isn't neccesary on a spinning reel. So, even with out a backing, it STILL ONLY held half the spool.

Niether of the companies have emailed me back yet. I'm going to have to turn up the heat a bit if they don't answer me before the end of the day. LOL

Well, if you're is accurate, then it's like you said; the line isn't accurate. In that case, I think Power Pro should be sending me some line. [cool]

I think I should go with the 20 lb this time. Maybe i'll get enough on the reel to actually catch a fish with. Man, this is frustrating. [unimpressed]

[black]Here's a couple of thoughts ... [/black]
[black][/black]
[black]Maybe Power Pro gave you a bonus spool with more line on it than the package states ... ??? [/black]
[black][/black]
[black]That would be cool ![/black]
[black][/black]
[black]Or, maybe ... that spool has a larger test pound line on it than the package states ... ??? Like someone in the factory made a mistake or someone in the store swapped the spools in the packaging. [/black]
[black][/black]
[black]Do you have a caliper or a device to measure the line diameter itself ? You could always try to compare the Power Pro with some mono of that approximate size to see how close it is.[/black]
[black][/black]
