THE BILLFISH PRO-AM
#1
Avalon, CA - March 19, 2007 -

Afishinados Tournaments is proud to introduce the Billfish Pro-Am, an all-release, big money tournament to be held September 5-7, 2007 in Avalon on Catalina Island. This is a new format designed from the ground up by fishermen for fishermen who want a level playing field among Pros and Joes competing in an all-release, big money tournament. This unique concept introduces many firsts:
A Scoring System to handicap Pro teams
Bonus Points for Circle Hooks and Double Points for Swordfish
A 'Draft' for individual anglers to enter and join existing Pro & Joe teams
Bonus points for teams drafting team members from the pool.
A 'Joe' Only side bet to ensure that a Joe team will be in the money.
A 'No Sweep' feature to give more teams the opportunity to be in the money.

Scoring System

The Scoring System for the Billfish Pro-Am is the heart of the tournament concept. It is designed to level the competition such that a 'Joe' team (not more than one Pro on the six member team) will earn 101 points for their first marlin release. A Pro team with 2-3 Pros on the team needs 2 marlin releases (102 pts.) to beat that 'Joe' team and a team with 4-5 Pros would need 3 marlin releases (150 pts.) to beat them both.
Teams can earn extra points by using circle hooks and by drafting team members from our pool of 'boatless anglers'. Any team capturing a swordfish will earn 200 points for the fish whether released or taken. Read more about the Billfish ProAm Scoring System...

The Draft

Individual anglers can sign up for 'The Draft' and a chance to win the Berkley Top Amatuer Angler Award in the Billfish Pro-Am for a refundable deposit of $300. Any team in the tournament that draws a team member from 'The Draft' will earn an additional point per marlin release just for including a draft member. Read more about the Billfish ProAm Draft...

Joe Only Side Bet

The Billfish Pro-Am includes 6 levels of daily side bets with two unique features. There is a 'Joe Team Only' side bet which will put all entered Joe teams into direct competition with each other for the daily award pool, and teams are limited to choosing only 4 of the 6 side bets which will ensure that one team cannot sweep the dailies. Entry Fees

Entry into the Billfish Pro-Am is $500 for an owner and one boat. Additional team members or individual anglers are $300 per participant. There are six optional side bets for each day of the tournament.
What is a Pro?

All participants must register as a Pro or a Joe, and their name will appear on a register of all participants. For the purposes of the Billfish Pro-Am, a Pro is any participant that answers "yes" to two of the following five questions:

Do you earn money fishing or get paid to fish?
Do you currently hold a commercial permit or mariner's license?
Are you a 'Pro Staff' member or owner of a tackle manufacturer?
Do you fish money tournaments for 'winnings' without paying entry fees?
Are you paid 'appearance fees' for particpating in fishing related events?
