willard catfish question
#1
This message board is something strange (bad javascript?)

I had to register as an Arizona resident to be able to post on the Utah board![Image: arg.gif]

Well here goes I love catfish and wanted to know if the cats at Willard were biting yet (as of March 22).

Last year at Willard the catfishing was fast but I caught small ones, oh well[url "javascript: top.editor_iframe.addTag('blush')"][blush][/url]

Oh and about Willard the South Marina how much does it cost? I hope its free.

[cool][#0000ff]There is no reason why you had to register as an Arizona resident. You can register on any board, without even including your state of residence. Must of been a temporary glitch. Glad to have you aboard anyhooters.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]We have had several threads on Willard catfish fishing in the last few weeks. They are active and biting both on lures and baits. Yes, they are small, by Utah Lake standards, but they are the best eating catfish in the country.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Willard cats seem to average between 14 to 16 inches, with a fair number of 18 inchers. In the olden days there were quite a few over five pounds and ten pounders were not uncommon. There are still some larger fish in Willard but not as many.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The south marina usually remains closed until about the first of April. Not sure whether they will even open it this year, with the low water. It is too low to launch boats. But, there should still be some decent fishing available, if you can find a deep spot in the channel or around the dike.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Both Willard Bay marinas are state parks. They require an annual pass or $9 a day to park inside the gates. No free lunch. Sorry.[/#0000ff]

[Wink] [font "Comic Sans MS"][black]The best and easy way is to buy a year pass for about $80.00 this way you can use it in many parks and fishing area in utah like east, rockport, pine and others, you can eat up alot of $9.00 fees in a quick hurry, and it pays for it self in time,if you do not pay at the gate or some one is not there to take the $ you will get finded and that can be expensive also, so hang the pass on your mirror and be done with it for a year.[/black][/font]
[font "Comic Sans MS"][black]Some cats at willard have been bite-N-but im not a cat fish lover there ugly to look at and to me the taste, well I perfer wyper or walleye and the season is about on upon us.[/black][/font]
[font "Comic Sans MS"][black][crazy]The water is very low at willard anything over about 14-15 foot you will have a hard time putting the boat in.[/black][/font]
[font "Comic Sans MS"][black]Have fun and welcome to the biggest fishing board in Utah, (and the best for info) most are willling to help.[/black][/font]
[font "Comic Sans MS"][black]Let the snow melt and fill up those Res - and - Lakes.[sly][/black][/font]

I wouldn't hang my season pass on my mirror, or on the dashboard. Take one of the pay envelopes and put your fun tag number on it. There is a place for you to write your license plate, name, and fun tag number. Put the envelope in the pay pipe, and the sticker on your windshield. That way the park you're at gets "credit" for you being there. They determine the percent of the State Park's budget based on the number of people using that park.

hi catfish logic, welcome, i'm a newby too, but i was just out on willard last sunday evening, trolling for the walleye but it was slow, did snag a huge carp by the tail, that was fun pulling him in, about a 15 pounder, one thing if your out in a boat you want to make sure your depth finder is working, there are shallow spots especially coming in and out of the south marina, we hit dirt coming back in cause my battery died on my fishfinder, forgot to charge it, ;0( no damage done though. about the catfish i cant say, a good buddy of mine fishes bear river for his cats and does very well
