Looking to buy a new sonar / finder. Want to spend somewhere around $250. Need to pool the knowledge of fellow bft'rs to find the best unit for my money! The unit will be mounted on my inflateable pontoon and run off the same 12v as electric motor. Thanks in advance, Finster

I've been looking for a friend of mine. He wants one that is GPS ready so he can upgrade later. The best I've found for the $250 range so far is the Humminbird 727. It has 640x320 resolution and 500 Watts RMS plus several other very nice features and is upgradeable.

I just bought the humminbird 565 for my Kayak. I used it for the last few ice fishing trips and it worked great. It's not a Gps or color finder but it has all the other features that have been stated in the post above. It has 640vx320h 5"FSTN display with dual beam sonar. It has 2000watts peak to peak power output

ive owned both of the huminbirds listed above, the 565 and 727. both work great for the money. the gps on the 727 isnt all that special, but it is better than nothing. (definately more accurate trolling speed the than waste of money paddle wheel humminbird sales)
anyways, i think you'd be happy with either unit. both have great resolution, and are very fast. the 727 has a little more power, which is nice.
