California's Marine Life Protection Act
#1
ASA, along with a number of California angling organizations, is working to ensure that the MLPA Science Advisory Team (SAT) includes members who will take angling and boating concerns into account when determining the number and extent of Marine Protected Areas. The Blue Ribbon Task Force, the team that will take comments from the SAT to formulate recommendations for the California Fish and Game Commission, has been chosen. The five member team will be chaired by former San Diego Mayor Susan Golding. ASA has met several times with its partners, the Coastside Fishing Club and United Anglers of Southern California, to formulate a plan of action regarding the MLPA. Their most recent meeting was at the ASA/Fred Hall Fishing Tackle, Boat and Travel Show in Long Beach, Calif.
