I'am wanting to hit the hard water one more time this year and take my kids (3 & 6) they have not been this year and I feel bad & tomorrow will be a perfect day up there. so My question is can I get a wheeler on the ice and better yet to renegade without swimming. Strawberry bay would be plenty though. Thanks in advance for any info.

As warm as it has been, I would not even think of taking my kids out the ice. Nor would I go out on a wheeler.

There have been reports of receeding (from the bank) ice at the ladders. To the point where people are talking about taking their toons up.
There may be some safe ice in areas, but I am sure it's EXTREMELY slushy... which would not be good for the kids or the wheeler.

I know last weekend was ideal surface conditions at Strawberry. There was about a 4" hard crust, with maybe 2 soft inches of snow/slush below it, and 18" of clear ice below that.
But certainly this week's weather has been warm. According to the MesoWest station I checked, it's only been below freezing twice this week up there; overnight and for a short period of time. I'm going to call the Marina as well, and see if I can get some surface reports.

You bet!
They told me that the ice had pulled away a good 5 feet in the area around the marina. And that what was frozen on top of the ice is now just a slushy/watery mess.
So ... I guess we'll do something else this weekend!
Hope that helps, guys!

A little open water by the ladders/CCWest most of the edges are open 5-10 feet, still too shallow for any serious action. I predict a mid week pull back to get us on the water.
