Has anyone ever heard of being alergic to only one kind of fish?? My son-in-law told me hes alergic to catfish. I thought that ment to all fish (iodine). But the other evening he had no trouble wolfing down the crab cakes and cod jumbo I made.
Today i offered him some smoked catfish. He said I'm alergic to catfish. I said you ate the fish the other night. So he tried a small bite, went to church and came home said he was sick. I didn't intend for him to become ill, but for the life of me I have never heard of being alergic to only one kind of fish.

[#0000ff]Anybody who has cleaned/filleted/eaten a variety of species will probably verify that there are significant differences in the odors, tastes and composition of different fish. I suspect that translates to chemical differences which could account for sensitivity among some people.[/#0000ff]

I have a friend back home who is a "seafood junkey" and eats fish and fish products at least once a day every day -- except for Shrimp. He's says that shrimp and shrimp alone will put him in the emergency room.

PETA
Dosen't that mean
P eople
E ating
T asty
A nimals
It only seems right to me boss .
Having eatin many different species of fish myself I agree with the differences in them. I guess there could be enough chemical differences to cause reactions. I was surpresied by how quickly it went away when he drank a ginger ale and ate a few crackers.

I wonder why that is? My mother inlaw is alergic to seafood, ie the iodine in seafood. And if she eats any she is on her way to the ER also. Now she can still use salt just not the iodized salt.

My father was allergic to shell fish. One year he was cooking shrimp and got poked on the finger from a shrimp tail and his hand and arm swelled up like a balloon.

Never had any reactions to any species of fish. But shrimp is another matter. I end up with a bad skin rash. Itching uncontrollably for a month. Same thing when I eat mangos. Funny thing is when I was a kid I ate shrimp with no obvious problems. Weird.

When I was a kid my friends and I use to *raid* the local farmers Watermelon field. We take a few home and only eat the centers. You know the sweetest part with no seeds to deal with. What a treat that was. Now if I eat watermelon that is ripe I get thet itchy feeling in my mouth. If they are really ripe (extra) it close off my throat. I always thought it was justice for my inapproiate behaviour as a kid. The doc tells me I just now have an alergy to the pectin that fruit produces.
