I recently bought me some chubs.
When they thawed they were rather soft, so were the red side shiners
I have caught channels cats in Arizona on junky cheap anchovies that were soft
But are these chubs ok?
Anyone use the red side shiners from a store?

I haven't had any problems with the chubs being soft just as long as you don't try to refreeze? them, the shiners are always soft no matter where you get them.

[cool][#0000ff]I catch and freeze my own minnows, so I have not tried those from Sportsmans. However, as has been stated, the redsides will always be softer than the chubs. But, if the chubs are frozen quickly enough, in water or vacuum packed, they should be plenty firm.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I freeze mine in water, and let them partially thaw before a trip. I keep them in a small insulated container, in my tube and take out the mostly thawed ones for bait, one at a time. If I have any left over at the end of a trip, I do refreeze them. They are the first I use on the next trip and sometimes they work better than fresher ones. Other times the fish are picky and want only fresh meat.[/#0000ff]

[#505000]I used Sportsman Chubs all last year with no issues. The only side effect I had from em was catching a bunch of fish.[/#505000]

I have used them and have had no problems with them. The trick with all frozen minnows is to keep them as close to frozen as you can before putting them on the hook. If they are just thawed enough that the hook will just barely go through them they are just right.

Only problem I've ever had with minnows from Sportsmans is that after I bait up my hands stink. Come to think about it, same thing happens with Tube Dudes minnows too--. Ahh he-- forget I even posted.
