Here are the sheds I found on Tuesday. I worked a little magic and restored them back to how they should have looked. Not really a big deal but I'm all excited about it so I thought I would post.

Cool. Looks like you did a real nice job on the color. How wide did they end up being?

I use a Danish Oak wood stain. It took me a while to figure out the best thing to use. Vandykes sells an antler stain but it looks kinda fake, The wood stain works the best.

THATS THE SAME WAY I DO IT. THEY LOOK GOOD. THE TIPS COULD USE A LITLE SANDING TO LIGHTEN THEM UP BUT ALL IN ALL WHAT A GREAT JOB. IVE DONE ABOUT 50 SETS OVER THE YRS. WOOD PUTY THE CRACKS AND STAIN THE REST USE SOME STEAL WOOL 000 OT TO SAND THEM AND THE USE LAQ OVER TO FINISH.

What kind of putty do you use? The wood putty I use always shows when I stain the antlers.
I was in a hurry to get this one done and didn't get the sanding done that I wanted, but overall I happy with it.

HookJaw those look great. If your willing to go that far to restore and mount sheds. In about 20 min and about $10 in material you could learn how to professionally mount horns. Then you could sell them on Ebay. Its really easy to learn and cheap per mount though you have to buy some things in bulk.

That would be fun but the problem is getting the sheds. Unfortunately I don't have very many good places to look for sheds and I don't really want to buy them from anybody.
What do you think of skinning a raccoon and doing a rug mount and bleaching the fur white but keeping the rings on the tail black and then getting some pink eyes to put on it. You could list it on EBAY as a white raccoon skin and people would think it was an albino raccoon. By saying it's a white raccoon skin you aren't lying so technically it wouldn't be a fraud. What do you think about that?
Muooo ha ha ha ha!
