We took the boat down to Lindon Boat Harbor. This was the fiirst time I have launched there. Thanks Tube Dude for the directions. We arrrived at about 7:00 a.m. and were pulling out of the marina at about 7:15. This was the first time out in the boat this year and it fired right up and ran great. We headed northwest out of the marina and looked for a spot along the reeds. We went about a mile and anchored the boat. I set the kids up throwing jigs under a bobber hoping for anything, tipped with a piece of crawler. I put carp meat under a bobber on one pole and threw it out next to the weed line. I put a minnow on the other and threw it the other way out towards the lake. It wasn't long before I noticed my bobber was gone. Turned out to be a nice sized mudder. Hadn't eaten one for a while so in the cooler he went. After that my kids wanted to switch to bait. I persuaded them to keep on casting for a while. At about 7:50 my youngest started yelling "I got one, I got one!" It turned out to be about a 15" channel on the jig. A little bit later my minnow line started running out. I set the hook on a nice 3 lb cat. It turned out to be the only fish that was caught away from the reed line. Both of these went into the cooler as well. About 5 minutes later my bobber disappeared next to the reeds and it turned out to be a 4 lber. Into the cooler it went. My kids wanted nothing to do with the jigs after that and so I switched one to shrimp and crawler and the other to carp meat. At 8:15 my bobber disappeared again. By the time I set the hook it was already in the reeds. Thank goodness I had it on the big rod. I horsed him out, having to stop once when I couldn't budge him, letting him take some more line out. It turned out to be the biggest of the day. A 9.5 lber and extremely fat. Into the cooler he went. I found out later at the fillet table that the fat belly was due to an 8" white bass he had munched earlier. Next it was my youngest's turn again. His bobber disappeared and the fight was on. I couldn't wipe the off of my face when he grimmaced and said, "I need help, I can't hold my pole by myself!" It was was a great fight and turned out to be an 8 lb big boy. Another for the cooler. Thank goodness for a well set drag. I caught one more mudder, let it go, and then it quit.
We moved to a different spot and I switched my oldest boy to carp meat. He was quite down on himself by this point, not putting anything in the boat yet. But it was his turn next, and he hit a nice 3-4 lber. It was really slow now so we tried another couple of spots with no luck. The power squadron was hitting it hard and the wind was just starting to kick in. We ended up trying one last spot and my oldest finally got his big fish just before 11:30. It took carp meat next to the reeds and ended up wrapping itself around the anchor line when he got to the boat. I luckily netted it just as the line broke. It was a good 7 lber. I hooked up briefly with a fish on a jig just before he caught the last one, either a whitie or a crappie I am assuming, but I will never know. We ended up calling it a day. My kids talked about it all weekend. They can't wait to go again, and frankly, neither can I.
