For the toothy critters I prefer to use a piece of Tyger leader. It is soft, yet strong. It is like having steel leader without the interference on your casting. I do a lot of spey casting as well as line shooting in the salt.

A normal steel leader is not a good idea. Tyger leader can be tied in the same way that you would tie Mono or even your normal tapered leaders. You can even tie it directly to your fly line when using a longer piece.[cool]

I'm sure you will love it. It is soft and pliable like mono but is some kind of new spaced age steel leader. I think it is just made with Kevlar or something. It is some of the best stuff on the market.

I use it for Sharks, Halibut, Ling Cod and other tooth species in the ocean. I also use about a 2foot leader when I am Halibut fishing with the 10wt.[cool]

Yeah i just went to there Website......Looks like good stuff. I will be using my 8 wt mostly...Any suggestions on pound range...Will this stuff turn over large saltwater poppers and baitfish patterns? Most of the fish I will be targeting will be Specs, reds, Macs, and shark......Unless some cool local hooks a brother up with a boatride..My jonboat will not leave the inlet!!

No problem on the big bugs to be thrown. I chuck my big Shrimp patterns with it. Depending on the species, I will sometimes use the 10lb and other times I will use the 20lb.

It really does move the same as mono so you can use it just the same way. Do you know how to do the long shoots??

I sometimes have a fly that is close to 3/4oz. Those are harder to spey but can be shot close to 100 feet which is just right to clear the breaking surf sometimes.[cool]

I can double haul and shoot line a pretty good distance. Is there another shooting line technique?

If I am surf fishing I will sometimes use a deep pocket striping apron and pre-strip alot of line in a very particular arrangement for it to lay perfect. I will also do a double haul but on the final throw, I will unleash a little extra umph and let it remove the rest of the line from the apron.

This works best from the water while only half submerged. From the sand I can lay longer loops out and single flip the shrimp fly for the 90 to 100 foot range.

I use the same technique on certain streams when the is alot of overhead brush and I can single cast a sidearm flip with some of my 1/4- 3/8oz Clousers. It is a hard technique to develop but it came in handy to invent when I had my other arm in a cast for 6months and couldn't do any other type of fishing.[cool]
