(Long Beach, CA) - The Seal Beach Yacht Club was the location for the second annual Fishing Season Kick-Off Party fundraiser, benefiting the Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation.
Captain John Grabowski was the main speaker for the night and was both very educating and entertaining. Grabowski spoke about his love of fishing as a kid and how important fishing has been to him in his life. He also spoke about long range tuna fishing.
Event organizer and TV fisherman Dan Hernandez, had set what he thought was a lofty fund raising goal for this year's event. "This being only our second annual fundraising event, we figured we would be doing well to just sell some event tickets and raise a few thousand dollars to help kids go fishing," said Hernandez. "But Thanks to all the people that showed up and our army of volunteers we raised over $6,500.00 and checks are still coming in.
"This is just incredible! It's so rewarding to know you are supporting a successful organization that is doing great things for kids," said Terry Randall, owner of Art's Fishing Tackle. Other event sponsors included Cabela's, Booyaa, Shakespeare, Eagle Claw, and many others.
Founded in 2001, the Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation provides outreach services to the youth of Southern California by providing free fishing opportunities through foundation fishing events. In 2007, the foundation will host more than 30 fishing events with two unique approaches. The first, known as, "Meet Me at The Lake," are events held in urban park lakes in conjunction with the Los Angeles City and County Parks Department. The other, "Open Ocean Adventure," is half day sport fishing charter boat events. Collectively, these events will reach nearly 4,500 kids and their families. Support for these events comes from volunteer efforts as well as partnerships within the Blue Cross of California Foundation, sport fishing companies and others.
The next fundraiser event for the Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation will be a Casino Night event at the Seal Beach Yacht Club in Long Beach on June 23, 2007. Tickets for the event will be $45.00 and can be bought on-line at www.danskids.org.
